At the copper mine of La Parreña in Mexico, a solar heating solution has been completed in September 2016. Mexico´s second largest mining company, Peñoles, owns the mine.

From now on the copper mine will cover up to 58% of its annual heat demand by means of solar energy, and over time will achieve a 58% reduction in energy costs and also a significant reduction in CO2 emission. Especially the electro winning processes in the mine require lots of energy.

We are very proud to have been selected as partners for this project by a company such as Peñoles. Solar heating as an energy source within the mining industry has a great future thanks to both economic and environmental benefits. The La Parreña copper mine will become an example for others to follow.
